Innovative Project Idea
Our "Speech in Health Research" SpHeRe program combines existing technologies, our know-how, and best practices for the application of speech and large language models in health research into an innovative, hands-on study program.
Using survey tools, speech-to-text technologies and large language models - all hosted within the UZH - students are able to design and conduct a small study, to descriptively analyze speech data using graphical user interface tools, and to critically reflect on the challenges and opportunities of new technologies - all while being coached by experienced lecturers.
Added value for students and teaching
Students receive practical insights into the use of deep-learning based technologies. Based on their own ideas, they will be able to build and conduct their own speech- or text-based data collection and analysis in a graphical user interface. Our planned hands-on study program "SpeHRe" will enable students to experiment with speech, free-text, and LLMs in a secure environment and in the context of a self-chosen topic. Those experiences will equip students to critically reflect on challenges and opportunities of speech and LLMs, thus preparing them for future technology innovations in research.
